Your gift will make a difference! There are several ways individuals, charitable groups and corporations can make a contribution to Meals on Wheels.
Memorial and Living Honor Program
A contribution in memory or honor of a dear friend or relative is a perfect way to remember loved ones throughout the year. A card acknowledging the gift is sent to the family member or honored individual.
The Feed the Need Fund
The Feed the Need Fund was established in 2004 to promote the long-term stability of Meals on Wheels, Inc. by emphasizing the expansion of client services. The Fund targets interested parties willing to make a planned gift. According to 2003 U.S. Census estimates, 100,000 Marion County residents are age 60 or older. Based upon national averages, at least 10 percent of those residents will turn to nonprofit food services to meet their daily needs. The aging baby boomer population suggests the need for these services will continue to grow for many years.
It takes a lifetime to build an estate. With proper planning, the distribution of your estate can be one of life's most satisfying and rewarding experiences. Through careful estate planning today, you can help secure the future for yourself, your family and for the causes you believe in.
The best way to choose a long-term financial and estate planning strategy is to work with an attorney, accountant or other tax advisor. Meals on Wheels, Inc. can work with you and your financial advisors to set up planned giving donations that are in your best interests and support our efforts.
Gifts of Cash
Monetary donations are the easiest type of gifts for nonprofit organizations to receive, and they are often the least complicated form for the giver. Simply make your check payable to "Meals on Wheels, Inc." Credit cards (MasterCard, Visa and Discover) are also accepted.
Some corporations have programs to match their employees' charitable gifts. If your employer has a matching gift program and would like to complement your gift to Meals on Wheels, please include those documents along with your check.
Gifts of Stock
Stock donations can provide tax advantages, and may be the best choice for some contributors. Gifts of appreciated stock do not require the payment of capital gains tax, and you receive an income tax deduction for the stock's full fair market value at the time of the gift.
Gifts of Real Estate
Some contributors choose to bequeath property. Real estate gifts may include a primary or vacation residence, farm, acreage or vacant lot. Like gifts of stock, gifts of real estate do not require the payment of capital gains tax, and you receive an income tax deduction for the stock's full fair market value at the time of the gift. It may also be possible to arrange the gift and receive the income tax deduction while continuing to occupy the residence.
Gifts of Life Insurance
A gift of life insurance can provide the giver with a significant charitable tax deduction. You may consider purchasing a new policy or contributing a policy you no longer need. To make the gift and receive the tax deduction, simply make "Meals on Wheels, Inc." both the owner and the beneficiary.
Bequests
Meals on Wheels, Inc. can be named as a beneficiary in your will. Bequests can be general, specific, honorary or memorial. The best way to determine the appropriate bequest is to work with an attorney, accountant or other tax advisor in preparing your will. Meals on Wheels, Inc. can work with you and your financial advisors to set up bequests that are in your best interests and support our efforts.
