Warm Weather Safety Requirements for Meal Delivery

Clients who are not at home or are not able to come to the door must leave a cooler with delivery instructions for the volunteers or meals will not be left.

This is extremely important during warm weather months when un-refrigerated food spoils easily and can grow harmful bacteria.

Coolers can prevent food from spoiling. All coolers must be clean and serviceable, and contain cold ice packs. If the person delivering your meal feels uncomfortable with the condition and temperature of your cooler, the meal will not be left.

Ice packs will be available for purchase from the Meals on Wheels office at a cost of $1.00 each. We recommend clients keep two ice packs on hand so that one can be in use and the other kept in the freezer as back-up.

You can create your own ice packs by filling 1 or 2 liter soda bottles halfway with plain water and freezing them until solid.
