‘Tis the season to take out your checkbook and donate to your favorite charity. It’s also the season when we receive many questions about our fundraising practices. Here are a few:
Do we sell or loan our contributors’ lists?
Absolutely not. We make a point of protecting our lists. We protect the privacy of our contributors as well as our many Meals on Wheels clients.
How much of my donation goes directly to clients?
Although this may change oh-so-slightly from year to year, we are very proud of our ratio. For every dollar raised, $.86 goes directly to client services. This is due largely to the many wonderful volunteers who go out into our community and deliver food and smiles to the homebound.
Do you ever solicit funds by phone?
Absolutely not. If you ever receive a call from someone claiming to be from “Meals on Wheels,” please notify our office immediately.
Do you ever solicit cash donations at public sporting events?
Unless it is our own sponsored event, we do not solicit cash donations in that manner.
If you see someone claiming to be representing our organization or a national or international Meals on Wheels, please notify us immediately. A list of upcoming special events can always be found on the Events page on our Web site.
If I donate money to the Meals on Wheels Association, located in Virginia, can I be assured the money will get back to my local program?
Yes, just make sure you indicate on donation that you want the money to stay in Indianapolis or your local community.
If I make an anonymous gift, can I be assured it stays anonymous?
Absolutely! Just make sure it is clearly marked that way and we will guarantee safe handling of your information.
If you ever have any questions or concerns about your donation, please feel free to contact us at info@mealsonwheelsindy.org or call Natalie at 633-6325.
Thank you so much for your donation of time, talent and treasure to Meals on Wheels!
