Meals on Wheels Annual Board Meeting 2007

Though it was foggy the morning of February 21, 2007, the party inside at Rick’s Boatyard was warm and tropical. Meals on Wheels hosted their annual board meeting titled “Preview to Paradise” -- just a taste of what is to come at this year’s annual Bingo Bash.

As attendees arrived to the sound of Jimmy Buffet, a lei was placed around their neck to facilitate the true paradise feel. After breakfast was served, a fun and interactive Hula guessing game (much like charades) was played to help introduce the staff.

To recognize a few of our many corporations for support and commitment to Meals on Wheels, awards were presented. Indy Pro Audio was given a Big Wheel Award for all the technical expertise provided in past years, including help with the audio and visuals for the Harrah’s Truck Donation with Robby Gordon.

The Corporate Big Wheel Award was accepted by David Owen, Executive Vice President, on behalf of Regions Bank. Since 1999, Regions Bank (Union Planters) has been a part of the corporate volunteer program and sponsored several yearly events.

John Pitz was awarded a Big Wheel Award. He has been the Master of Ceremonies for many years at the annual Bingo Bash and served six years on the Meals on Wheels Board of Directors and Development Committee.

Though representatives from Clark Appliance were unable to attend, they were honored with a Big Wheel Award to show appreciation for Kitchen Tour sponsorship in the past two years.

Hero medals were presented to those volunteers who went above and beyond. Matt Kiel, of Beckman Coulter, Inc., Sagian Operations, was recognized for his exceptional service as corporate coordinator. He is retiring from that position and will be missed.

Marilyn Carroll, Charles Poindexter and Don and Shirley Wendling were all presented with Hero medals for their outstanding volunteer performance and serving as models for the Saucy Seasoned Seniors Cookbook.

Along with the Hero medals, Don and Shirley Wending were given a special award to acknowledge their willingness to deliver in all types of weather, The Golden Shovel award.

The tropical paradise themed meeting was light and fun despite the cold and foggy weather. Keep a look out for more news to come about this year’s Bingo Bash.

Those that were unable to attend will be given their awards and recognized within the next few months.
